Eggplant Export Standards from China: Grading, Quality & Packaging
International buyers grade eggplant by uniformity of shape, skin gloss, caliber and absence of bruising. Defining these standards clearly at origin reduces rejection at destination and keeps long-term trade relationships healthy.
Size and caliber grading
Long purple varieties dominate export trade. We sort by length and diameter bands — small, medium and large — so retail and food-service customers receive a consistent offering. Straight, evenly colored fruit with a bright calyx ranks highest in every quality tier.
Quality inspection and firmness control
Growers and packhouse staff inspect for pests, cuts, discoloration and soft spots before they reach the line. Firmness checks and careful hand placement prevent bruising, while cushioning materials separate layers inside each carton.
Cold chain and packaging for export
Eggplant is chill-sensitive, so we hold an intermediate temperature band and avoid over-cooling. Ventilated cartons, proper stacking and short pre-cooling preserve gloss and keep fruit supple through transit to distant markets.
